Despite its name, there are actually 103 steps, lined with palm trees, leading up to the area near Blackbeard’s Castle. These cobblestone steps are a charming piece of the island’s history.

Cruise ship passengers visiting St. Thomas will dock at either the Havensight Cruise Dock or Crown Bay. Crown Bay is situated around 1.6 miles (2.6 km) west of downtown Charlotte Amalie and can accommodate up to two cruise ships. In contrast, Havensight is located 1.9 miles (3 km) east of downtown Charlotte Amalie, and can host up to three cruise ships. 

Both ports provide many facilities and shopping areas, though Havensight Mall is larger. You’ll also find many restaurants, bars, and cafes that serve a variety of cuisines. Additionally, both docks offer taxi services with clearly displayed and official fares. For those who prefer to explore on their own, car rental agencies are found near both cruise ports. Both ports are wheelchair accessible, have restrooms, and offer Wi-Fi for those who want to stay connected.

Keep in mind that, occasionally, cruise ships might anchor directly in front of Charlotte Amalie, requiring passengers to be transported to shore by smaller boats (known as tenders).
