Your cruise ship will likely dock at the Sans Souci Zone, 2 miles from the Zona Colonial on the other side of the river. Therefore, it is recommended that you take a taxi or shuttle bus. Avoid local buses at all costs on a cruise day.
If you dock at the Don Diego Quay, you can walk to the city center. A pedestrian crossing is just outside the terminal building, and you take the steps up the city walls and along Calle El Conde to the famous Calle Las Damas street in the Old Town.
Santo Domingo is also a homeport from which Caribbean cruises depart. In this case, the best way to get from the Las Americas International Airport (SDQ) is by pre-arranged shuttle bus.
